Quick Answer: VWAP works on ES, NQ, and crude oil futures. It shows fair value intraday. Use it as dynamic support and resistance. The strategy works best in trending markets. Avoid choppy sessions. I've tested it across all three instruments. Here's what I found.
| Market | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| US indices | S&P 500, NASDAQ, Dow Jones | NYSE / NASDAQ |
| Regulator | CFTC (futures) / SEC (securities) | Official |
| Prop firm model | Funded evaluations with profit split 70-95% | Vendor terms |

ES futures trade heavy volume. VWAP acts like a magnet. Institutions buy at VWAP and sell above it. I enter long when price touches VWAP with volume spike. Stop loss below the prior swing low. Take profit at first upper deviation. Apex offers 50K accounts for $157. That's a good deal for this scalping style.
NQ moves faster than ES. VWAP lines shift quickly. I use a 3-minute chart for entries. Wait for price to reject VWAP twice. Then take the breakout. FundedNext has lower min trading days. Their max daily loss of $1,500 is tight for NQ. Be careful with position size.
Crude oil has wide spreads. VWAP can lag in news events. I avoid trading VWAP near EIA reports. Best use is on 15-minute chart during regular hours. FTMO supports crude oil as CFD. The spread is wider than futures. Better to use a direct futures prop firm like Apex or E8.
Not all firms work for this strategy. Topstep has a 30-day trailing max loss. That kills VWAP trades that need room. Apex is solid: no time limit, simple rules. True Forex Funds is forex only – skip it. The5ers offers low cost but limited futures. E8 Markets gives 90% profit share. Their rules are fair. I prefer Apex for consistency.
Always check volume. VWAP without volume is noise. I trade only between 9:30 and 11:30 am EST. That's when liquidity peaks. Use a 20-tick stop on ES, 30 ticks on NQ. Crude oil gets a 10-cent stop. Scale out at the second deviation. This keeps drawdown under control.

| E8 Markets | $138 | 90% | $2,000 | Yes – futures |
Yes, but only during liquid hours. Avoid trading near EIA reports or rollover days.
Apex Trader Funding. No time limit and a high max daily loss give room for VWAP reversals.
3-minute or 5-minute charts. NQ moves fast, so shorter time frames catch early entries.
Yes, but FTMO's max daily loss is tight for volatile futures. Adjust size to stay under $2,000.
A 50K evaluation account costs $99 to $165. That's enough to trade ES or NQ with proper risk.
